This Weekend: Bridal Shower and Passion Pit!

It looks like the cooler weather is here to stay! Friday was rainy and chilly - perfect for enjoying a bowl of pho after work. Yum. Also, I was definitely wishing I hadn't forgotten gloves on my 12 mile run on Saturday! Brr! After that run I savored my very long, hot shower! Once I had psyched myself up to face the chill again, I met up with Will to shop at the last Downtown Farmers' Market of the season. I was so sad I couldn't volunteer one last time. :-( However, since Will was volunteering I did get to see some of the fun pet Halloween costumes! So adorable.
After running and market time on Saturday, I headed to a bridal shower for my office-mate/fellow Dietitian, Erin. It's always a bit fun to see everyone outside of work! The shower was a great time. (Despite the fact that I spent a lot of time trying to get creative on how to wrap Erin's gift. Why do they even make CLEAR wrapping paper! Lol.)
Since I was the only one with a real camera, I was elected to be photographer. Here's a few pics from the party!
Guest of honor in the middle with the lovely party hosts!
Delicious brunch dishes. My fave was the french toast casserole. Yum!
All the lovely VA nutrition staff at the party!
After the party, I was able to get in a glorious long afternoon nap. It was much needed! Later that evening, Will cooked up dinner and we headed to Minglewood Hall for Passion Pit! To be honest, initially I wasn't super excited to go since I had gotten a bit burned out on their Manners album. It was one of the only cds I had to play in my van the summer I worked for Americorps and did a ton of driving. The concert was much better than I thought it would be! I am really digging the stuff on their newer cd, Gossamer which just released a few months ago. I'm beginning to think this album is much, much better than Manners! Here's one of my favorites from last night.

There they are! It's so hard to get good pics at concerts. Oi.
Hope you did some fun things this weekend! Here's to another great week! I seriously can't believe that it is almost November. Where did October go???

Weekend Shenanigans

Hey Friends!
It's almost Wednesday again and boy am I happy to finally get a day off tomorrow!!! So looking forward to sleeping in and catching up on a few things. :-) The rest of this past weekend was just dandy. After a much needed nap on Saturday to recover from my Shelby Forest run of course! I refueled at Las Delicias for dinner on Saturday- probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in town. They make their own tortilla chips, salsa, and guacamole which they sell at all the local farmer's markets - love that! Obviously, I wasn't the only once Mexican deliciousness - we ran into two of my fellow StarRunner friends there!
Afterwards we grabbed a blanket and headed to the Levitt Shell for the Stax Music Academy's summer concert. They are such an energetic and talented group of high schoolers. The Levitt Shell venue is so great. There are truly few activities greater than chilling in the grass with a cool drink and listening to live music. :-)

Sunday I woke up with a craving for pancakes! Major. So, I whipped up these fluffy flapjacks chock full of some of the sweet little blueberries that have been all the rage at the farmers market. Yum!

After a bit of grocery shopping, a bike ride, laundry, and some reading, I headed to Will's for some dinner! One of the U of M intern's we both had for rotations recently gifted Will with this Iranian boxed soup mix. We were both really curious about trying it out. All you do is add water and cook. We ate it topped with yogurt like they suggested on the box. It was really tasty and satisfying too - it was full of lots of beans and noodles. Mmmm. Noodle Vegi!

Baby... It's Hot Outside

I am really enjoying this Indie summer movie series at the classy Orpheum theater downtown. The theater is just a short walk down the street from my apartment, so it is super easy to catch these great flicks!
Pulp Fiction was on the screen on Thursday. I had never seen this one before, but had heard a lot of good things about it. Lots of gang action with some hilarious quotes thrown in by Samuel L. Jackson. Definitely entertaining. Friday, we went back again with our friends Josh and Amanda for Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. I forgot how exciting that movie was - exploding heads, dangerous snakes, and booby traps and all!
Excited for Pulp Fiction!
This morning I was up super early to go run the hills at Shelby Forest with running group. At 6:30 AM it was still 80ish degrees with 100% humidity. Insane hills + heat + humidity = recipe for an arduous run! Let's just say, I think that was the most I have ever sweat. So gross. Will just loves this super warm weather after growing up in New Mexico, but I am having trouble not feeling like I'm melting... (my hair is also a hot mess with this humidity!)
Recently, I have been really stuck on William Fitzsimmons. I think he kind of looks like a heavily bearded Ryan Gosling... what do you think?

Crazy right?! I just can't get enough of "Good Morning" and "I Don't Feel it Anymore". Speaking of music, I stumbled across this really cool blog that talks about pairing food and music. A concept that I had totally never even considered before. Check it out -->  http://www.turntablekitchen.com/.
Hope you are all surviving the heat! I'm going to go get yet another glass of ice water to try to keep cool. Check in again soon!
